Blast off in 2017 for ABB: between the end of 2016 and the beginning of 2017, the Group has indeed closed two major deals in two strategic emerging markets, Brazil and India, for the provision of interconnection services.
Both These agreements are focused on ultra-high voltage technologies, a field on which the Swiss-based Group is betting a lot.
Respectively, the order ABB won in Brazil is worth $75, while the one in India is worth $640 million.
In the South American country, the company will supply advanced converter transformers for the ultra-high-voltage direct current (UHVDC) transmission link that will connect the north and the southeast of the country, providing energy to the Rio area.
In India, ABB will cooperate with the national electricity grid to develop a transmission link – one of the longest in the whole world -that will provide reliable electricity across the subcontinent. The link will also act as two-way path, adding wind and thermal power to electricity in order to balance the gap in energy conversion between the North and the South of the country.
